The warehouse mobile functionality in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is part of a suite called Mobile Flows. You can run several different apps on the same base engine, which means the warehouse mobile, shop floor mobile, sales mobile, and time and attendance apps all share the same core logic. Everything runs online directly in Business Central, so there is no integration to maintain between the apps and your ERP system.

You can configure new flows yourself without writing any code. The mobile flow engine lets you set up flows, posting logic, and registrations as configuration rather than customisation. If you need a new flow for service orders or another process, you build it through setup rather than development.

What Mobile Flows is and how the apps relate to each other

Mobile Flows is a suite where several apps use the same base engine. The warehouse mobile flow is one of those apps, and it onboards automatically when you download the app. The shop floor mobile is a separate app, but it runs on the same core logic.

Because the apps share one engine, you get consistent behaviour across them. The same posting logic and the same flow structure apply whether you are working in the warehouse, on the shop floor, or taking sales orders.

How the mobile flow engine works in Business Central

At the bottom of the setup is the mobile flow engine. Everything you see is built directly in Business Central, and it works online directly in Business Central. There is no integration to any external system.

The mobile flow engine is a setup engine. You use it to build the different flows and all the posting logic. On top of the engine sit the mobile flow setup pieces, which act as building blocks. These pieces are what you use when you create the warehouse mobile, shop floor mobile, sales mobile for taking up sales orders, time and attendance, and so on.

Building your own flows through configuration instead of code

The pieces in the engine make it possible to do flow registration. With a little help, you can build flows for yourself. If you want a new flow for an app, a service order, or another process, you set it up without making any customisations to the code.

It is all a configuration thing. That keeps your solution easier to maintain and lets you adapt the apps to your own processes without involving development.

No. Everything is built directly in Business Central and works online directly in Business Central. There is no integration to maintain between the apps and your ERP system.

Can I create my own flows without coding?

Yes. You can set up new flows, such as a service order flow, using the mobile flow setup pieces. It is all configuration, so you do not need to make any customisations to the code.
