Mobile Warehouse lets you scan combined barcodes that hold several pieces of information at once. You configure this yourself in the Mobile Flow setup, without any coding.

You can combine values like item number and serial number in a single barcode. You can also include custom fields you have added as your own extension.

When you scan a combined barcode, the system splits it into separate values. This means one scan can capture multiple data points in one go.

You set up combined barcodes through the data processing code on the relevant flow, for example in Find Item. There you define your own barcode format, including which characters the system looks for.

Combined barcodes in Mobile Warehouse

When you use Mobile Warehouse, you can set up all kinds of mixed barcodes. If you have a scenario where you want to scan several things from one barcode in a single go, you can configure it yourself.

A typical example is a barcode that contains both an item number and a serial number. But it is not limited to those. You can include all kinds of identifiers, and even custom fields that you have built as your own extension. If you want to scan that information together with other data in the same barcode, you can.

How combined barcodes work in Mobile Flow setup

Behind the scenes, this is handled in the Mobile Flow setup. The Mobile Flow setup is a complex area to understand, so this is not meant as full training. The point here is simply to show that it is possible.

It is important to note that this is not a coding task. It is a setup and configuration task. You work with the flows directly in the setup.

Take Find Item as an example, or anywhere else where you have combined data you want to scan for. In the setup, you define the flows. The flow includes a step where you state the value you are looking for, such as the item number. That is the definition of that part of the flow.

Defining your own barcode format with data processing code

If you scroll to the right in the flow, you will see a data processing code on the right hand side. When you open it, you get a list of combined barcodes.

In that list, you can define your own barcodes. There is a logic that controls how the format string works, including which character the system looks for. Several different kinds of logic are available within this part of the setup.

By modifying this list, you determine your own scenario and your own code for a combined barcode. You can combine anything into one barcode. The result is that you scan once, and the system splits the code into several separate values.

Q&A

What is a combined barcode in Mobile Warehouse?

A combined barcode is a single barcode that holds several pieces of information, such as item number and serial number. When you scan it, the system splits it into separate values, so one scan captures multiple data points.

Do I need to write code to set up combined barcodes?

No. Combined barcodes are configured in the Mobile Flow setup. It is a setup and configuration task, not a coding task.

Can I include custom fields in a combined barcode?

Yes. Besides standard identifiers like item number and serial number, you can include custom fields that you have added as your own extension.

Where do I configure combined barcodes?

You configure them through the data processing code on the relevant flow, for example in Find Item. Scroll to the right in the flow to find the data processing code, then open it to access the list of combined barcodes where you define your own barcode format.
